Thank you. Thanks Tony for having me on the on the podcast. So basically blown away hair spa is Southern Sydney’s low toxin, holistic salon. And basically that means that all our products that we use are all low toxin. They’re either organic or plant based, natural, naturally derived. And yeah, so the reason behind I’ve been in business for 14 years and the last four years I made the transformation to low toxin following a health health challenges of my own. Around hormones and fertility, and the more research that I did, which spoke about, like how chemicals and toxins can affect our endocrine system, it was a bit of a no brainer to transform the salon. So the, I guess the main reason was my, like, health and the client and the staff and the clients as well. So that’s basically how it started.

Fantastic. And I mean, you know, a great business is one that you love going to doesn’t feel like a business. So when it’s that personal, yes, you know, you can’t get much better than that. Okay, so looking at treatments and so forth. What do you mean by I guess healthier and organic and so forth?
Kalli
Yeah, right. Okay. So a lot of the colors that are used in traditional hairdressing is like they have a lot of chemicals in there. So they’re either Got ammonia, or PPD a lot of these toxins and whatever we put on our skin goes into our body just like the foods that we eat can either nourish us or deplete us the same with toxins on our skin. So the ranges that we use now, one of them, one of them is low toxin, I won’t say it’s organic or natural and it still has a few of the ingredients in it that are necessary to activate the color in the hair and to get it working. However, they might have replaced some of them with a more natural product that’s biodegradable, doesn’t have any smells or fumes or anything like that. And they’ve really lowered the amount of some of the nasties in there so some ranges might have like 2% of PPD, for example, whereas this range only some of their colors have up to like maybe .002%. So they’re really limited. So the way the best way I like to describe that easy few are like addicted to sugar, and then you slowly start to swap it out with a little bit of Honey each week, instead of having the sugar, the body is going to break it down easier, you’re not going to get like, you know, you’re not going to have certain other side effects. So the same with the products and one of our newest ranges actually has not one toxin at all. So it covers up to 100% gray hair, and it’s activated with water, and it’s made from 100% plant. So there is nothing you could literally eat this and nothing would happen to you.

Wow. So it covers gray hair or look, you know what i have plenty of that And I used to go without to the supermarket and colored my hair at a supermarket once you told me there’s something wrong with those.
Kalli
Look, I don’t really I don’t work with supermarket products. I can tell you from my experience that after 10 years in a business where my hands were constantly touching toxins and breathing in the fumes, I can tell you that that resulted in having some pretty severe health implications. And, again, from my experience the last three or four years have started slowly reversing that. So yeah, I actually had actually had no menstrual cycle for a long time. And after applying a holistic approach to health, and like eliminating many toxins and a few things out of my life, my my period came back and it has every month without any medical intervention. So yeah,

well, that just shows how much putting garbage in so to speak makes a huge difference to your body. Well done with that.

if you put diesel in you put in your unleaded car, how long is it gonna? How long is it gonna drive for you know, so? Yeah,
Tony skinner
that’s a perfect analogy. And you do other things as well, such as smoothing and detox treatment. How does that work? 
Kalli
Yeah, so one of our detox treatments, it’s one of our popular ones. And it’s great for if you’re a first time client at the salon, first time visiting, and it’s basically a really beautiful all our treatments are really relaxing and calming. So you like the beta and you get an eye mask. You get a hot towel, you get a blanket. And basically this treatment is all about. So if you’ve been using Say for example, colors from the supermarket, or you use a lot of hairspray in your hair, what this treatment does is we shampoo your hair for up to nine times we leave each shampoo in there for up to three or four minutes, and it slowly cleanses away and breaks down all the product build up and toxins in the hair. So once once that is all removed, the hair feels lighter. It’s like taking off the backpack that you’ve been carrying, the hair feels lighter, it sits with more bounces, it just it’s a lot healthier. So from from that from that there we can see the more like the true nature of your hair and how it sits, which is great for before a hair cut or before having a low toxic color or something like that. So it’s just a really nice cleansing. The other thing with that treatment is that you’re lying at the basin, we’re using essential oils in your hair. So you you’re actually getting the therapeutic benefits of resting your body as well. So as as well as the hair front.

Yeah. And you’re one of those rare businesses, you actually have prices on your website.
Kalli
We see they are it’s like it’s an it’s a it’s an indicate like it’s not the set price. And we do quite every single client with quote every client before the service, but it’s some of their products are it’s priced on weight, so depending on how much color we use. So when a client comes in, we give them a thorough consult , we have a chat with them, look at what their hair goals are and then we’ll give Then we’ll ask him Would you like a quote before the service and we’ll give him a quote. So that’s something that we definitely like to get out of the way before the client enjoys the experience of being in the salon.

Because, you know, I’m a bloke, you know, I’m paying 20 bucks for the barber to cut my hair when the price goes up to $23 ago What? . So yeah. So, all this stuff is all good for men’s hair as well.
Kalli
And yeah, for sure, definitely. We offer men’s haircuts in here. And some men really enjoy having a treatment as well, whether it’s in their lunch break, if they just want to have a bit of a, the, the therapy. The therapeutic benefits of some of these treatments is just like you’ve had like a half an hour massage or something. So when our body is in the most relaxed state as possible. From there, our body knows how to heal. So when we’re karma, you would know yourself you make you make more wiser decisions. Relationships improve, so That’s the sort of feel that we’re going for in this one as well.
